At Performin Security Camera Solutions, we specialize in professional security camera installation, commercial low-voltage systems, networking, Wi-Fi, IP audio, and advanced surveillance solutions for businesses throughout San Diego County. One of our recent large-scale projects was a complete security, networking, and low-voltage installation for a Valero gas station franchise in Lakeside, California.

Overview

This project was much more than a standard security camera installation. It was a fully integrated commercial surveillance and technology system designed to support daily operations, reduce blind spots, improve cashier visibility, protect high-risk areas, and give ownership better access to video, POS transaction data, audio, networking, and storewide monitoring.

For gas stations, convenience stores, major offices, corporate buildings, warehouses, and large commercial facilities, a properly designed security camera system is not just about recording footage. It is about building a complete infrastructure that supports security, management, operations, and long-term reliability.

Large-Scale Security Camera Installation in Lakeside, CA

For this Valero gas station in Lakeside, our team designed and installed a complete 53-camera commercial security camera system with a 64-channel NVR and 64 terabytes of storage. This gave the business a powerful surveillance platform with room for future expansion.

The camera system was designed to cover all major areas of the property, including the convenience store, cashier area, entrance, aisles, office, exterior areas, canopy, fuel dispensers, and high-traffic customer zones. Every camera was selected and positioned based on the purpose of that specific area, not just installed randomly.

For the fuel canopy and dispensers, we used optical zoom-capable cameras so the system could focus more clearly on the area between the vehicle and the pump. This helps capture important activity around the dispensers, including customer interactions, vehicle positioning, pump usage, and any suspicious activity near the fuel islands.

This level of planning is especially important for gas stations because they often face multiple security risks simultaneously: fuel theft, shoplifting, cashier disputes, transaction issues, vandalism, customer accidents, and activity around the pumps.

Enterprise-Grade NVR, Storage, and Security Rack Installation

The heart of the system was a dedicated 64-channel NVR with 64TB of storage, installed inside a professional networking rack. The rack was approximately four feet tall and housed the security camera equipment, networking devices, managed PoE switches, backup power equipment, decoder hardware, and related low-voltage infrastructure.

All cameras were powered through managed TP-Link PoE switches, giving the system a clean, professional, and centralized design. Using managed PoE switches allows for better control, monitoring, troubleshooting, and long-term serviceability compared to basic unmanaged equipment.

For commercial security camera systems, especially large installations with dozens of cameras, a clean rack setup is extremely important. It keeps the system organized, improves airflow, simplifies maintenance, and allows the business to expand or troubleshoot the system more efficiently in the future.

This type of structured low-voltage installation is ideal for:

  • Large corporations

  • Corporate offices

  • Gas stations and convenience stores

  • Retail stores

  • Commercial buildings

  • Warehouses

  • Industrial facilities

  • Franchise locations

  • IT-managed business environments

Video Wall Decoder for Cashier Visibility and Blind Spot Reduction

One of the most unique parts of this project was the custom display system inside the shop. We installed and configured a Hikvision video wall decoder with four HDMI outputs and two HDMI inputs. This allowed us to create a powerful monitoring display that combined live camera views and promotional content on the same large screen.

The main display inside the store was designed to show four to six important camera views at the same time. These cameras were selected specifically to help eliminate blind spots for the cashiers. Instead of having to guess what was happening in areas they could not see directly, the cashiers could view key camera angles in real time on a large display.

In addition to the camera views, one section of the display was dedicated to content coming from a computer screen. This allowed the business to show promotional videos, pictures, text, coffee pricing, snack specials, and other store promotions directly on the same big screen.

For example, the display could show five important security camera views while also showing a larger promotional area with current specials, product pricing, or advertising content. This gave the business both a security advantage and a customer-facing marketing tool.

This solution was especially valuable because it combined:

  • Live security camera monitoring

  • Cashier blind spot visibility

  • Promotional display content

  • Computer screen sharing

  • Custom video wall layout

  • Centralized control through the decoder

Dedicated Spot Monitor at the Store Entrance

In addition to the main cashier display, we also installed a dedicated spot monitor in the middle of the store, positioned directly in front of the entrance. This monitor displayed a specific front door camera at all times.

Spot monitors are a very effective security tool for gas stations, retail stores, and convenience stores. When customers enter and immediately see themselves on a monitor, it creates a visible security presence and can help discourage theft, suspicious activity, and unwanted behavior.

For this project, the entrance monitor was fed from the same Hikvision decoder system, allowing the display layout to remain centralized and professionally controlled.

Private Cashier Monitoring Screen

The system also included a private screen designed specifically for the cashiers. One of the HDMI feeds from the decoder was connected to the second output of the NVR, allowing a dedicated group of four important camera views to be displayed for cashier use.

This gave the cashiers a private, focused view of key store areas without interfering with the promotional display or the entrance spot monitor. For busy gas stations and convenience stores, this type of setup can greatly improve awareness and response time.

POS Text Overlay Integration with Security Cameras

Another advanced feature of this project was the POS transaction text overlay system. We installed a dedicated unit that captured information from the cash registers and overlaid that data onto specific camera views in the office.

The system captured transaction details such as:

  • Cashier name

  • Cashier ID

  • Items being scanned

  • Item pricing

  • Transaction Data

This information was displayed over the video footage for two specific cash register cameras. The cameras and transaction data were recorded together, allowing the owner to review video footage while also seeing the matching register activity.

This creates a powerful tool for reviewing disputes, verifying purchases, investigating suspicious transactions, and improving accountability at the register.

The owner can also search through the recorded text data. For example, they can search for specific items sold during a certain week, look for a specific price, or review video footage connected to a certain transaction. This makes the system much more useful than a standard camera recording setup.

For gas stations, liquor stores, convenience stores, restaurants, and retail businesses, POS integration with security cameras can be one of the most valuable upgrades available.

Office Monitoring Setup with Main NVR Display

Inside the office, we installed a large 46-inch TV connected to the main NVR system. This display gave the owner and management team full access to the main surveillance system, allowing them to view cameras, review footage, manage playback, and monitor the entire property from one central location.

The office also included a main computer screen and an auxiliary monitor. The auxiliary monitor was used to share promotional videos, images, and text to the large display inside the shop through the video wall decoder.

This allowed the business to manage promotional content from the office computer while also using the same system to feed content to the main customer-facing display.

An HDMI switch was also installed on the auxiliary monitor. This made it possible to switch the input when needed and view the two cash register cameras with POS integration, giving management better control and visibility over the transaction overlay system.

Professional Backup Power with CyberPower UPS Units

Reliability was a major part of this project. We installed three 1500VA CyberPower automatic voltage regulator uninterruptible power supply units to support the complete system.

These UPS units were professionally installed and grounded. They were calculated to keep the security camera system, NVR, PoE switches, networking equipment, and computer running for approximately 90 minutes during a power outage, shortage, or deliberate power shutoff.

For commercial businesses, backup power is extremely important. A security camera system is most valuable when it stays online during unexpected events. Power interruptions can happen during storms, electrical issues, construction problems, outages, or intentional shutoffs. With a properly designed UPS backup system, the business can continue recording and monitoring even when the main power is temporarily unavailable.

Commercial Wi-Fi and Networking Installation

Along with the security camera system, we also installed a professional Wi-Fi solution using TP-Link access points. This provided the gas station with a stronger and more reliable wireless network for business operations.

For modern commercial properties, Wi-Fi and networking are part of the foundation of daily business. Cameras, registers, computers, audio systems, displays, and management devices all depend on stable network infrastructure.

AXIS IP Audio System with Indoor and Outdoor Speakers

This Valero project also included a professional AXIS IP audio system with indoor and outdoor speakers. We installed two AXIS IP speakers inside the shop and one outdoor AXIS IP speaker in the canopy area.

The system was designed for music, announcements, and communication throughout the store and fuel area. We also installed an AXIS audio bridge and connected a dedicated microphone to the computer, allowing the business to make announcements through the speakers.

This made it possible to call someone in the shop, make general announcements, or communicate to the main customer areas through the IP audio system.

IP audio is a powerful solution for commercial properties because it can be integrated into the business network and managed more professionally than traditional speaker wiring. For gas stations, retail stores, warehouses, schools, offices, and large facilities, IP speakers can be used for announcements, paging, music, safety messages, and operational communication.

Why Large Commercial Properties Need Professionally Designed Security Systems

A large commercial security camera installation requires more than mounting cameras. It requires planning, network design, cable management, power calculation, storage planning, camera placement, display design, remote access, and long-term serviceability.

For a gas station, every camera needs a purpose. The register cameras need to capture transaction areas clearly. The entrance camera needs to capture faces. The canopy cameras need to cover vehicles and pumps. The cashier display needs to reduce blind spots. The office display needs to help management review footage. The POS overlay needs to connect transactions to video evidence. The backup power needs to keep everything online during outages.

When all of these systems are designed properly, the business gets a much more valuable and reliable security solution.
